PRACTICE.
Most people struggle with this - even the most committed music learners!
We get 1:1 lessons, receive lots of information and practices from our teacher, or look online for resources and information to help us...
And we have the best of intentions in following up on it!
But so often, practice falls by the wayside.
Resistance, procrastination, self-doubt, low motivation, confusion and frustration so easily take over when we are alone at home, trying to engage with music.
For me, exercise is the same - I find myself really struggling to find the motivation to do it, unless I sign up for a gym or studio membership.
When I turn up to a yoga or pilates class, I hand over the practice to the instructor, and just do what I'm told - I don't have to manage or decide what to do, or get caught up in my head about it! I just do it!
And the results are far greater than anything I'd achieve by trying to keep myself motivated with no external support.
So I had a bright idea:
Why not create a membership like a yoga studio, for singing?

Tune
A practice session to develop pitch awareness and precision, so you can sing in-tune with confidence.
In Tune sessions, we work in a slow, meditative way to develop your perception of "sympathetic resonance" - aka, the feeling of being "in-tune".
We then tune this feeling to the underlying musical structures that all music is made of.
Tone
A practice session to develop vocal resonance and strength, so that you can sing with presence, freedom, ease and expression from the low to high ranges of your voice.
In Tone sessions, we explore the edges of your voice, to find out what is possible - beyond what you can currently imagine. Developing chest, head, twang and mixed resonance, we work on the physical conditioning required to unlock vocal strength and freedom, as well as control over your expression and creativity.
Time
A practice session to develop a clearer sense of timing and rhythm, so you can flow with music and stay anchored in-time with yourself and others.
In Time sessions, we do practices that help you understand the matrix of time in music, and develop your ability to feel it, and stay synchronised with it. We use movement patterns to develop a feeling of musical time, as well as apps as training wheels to assist with this. There are options to use vocal percussion, body percussion, or instruments if you have them.
Create
A practice session to learn and apply music theory in service of your personal creativity and expression.
In Create sessions, we build knowledge and experience of using the fundamental principles of music theory, such as scales, melody, harmony, rhythm and tone. We develop a musical vocabulary that you can learn to use to "speak" your own musical expression. We also explore musical styles that offer diverse expressive potentials. Discover what is waiting within you, to be expressed through the language of music.
Each guided practice session is 30 minutes - short enough to be digestible, long enough to be effective. You can stack up back to back sessions if you want to go longer.
You can attend any session, any day. Switch it up anytime, and also mix and match what's most relevant to you and according to your schedule.
You join the practice sessions on Zoom, where I guide a practice in your chosen session - Tune, Tone, Time or Create.
Memberships are tiered to how many practice sessions you wish to join per week.
It really is just like a yoga/fitness studio membership - just for singing!
Payments cannot be split due to administrative complexity.
One account will be nominated for payments.
If one child/family wishes to discontinue lessons after the minimum period, someone else can replace them, or the subscription can be cancelled.
We suggest that you arrange automatic funds transfer to the nominated payment account prior to the monthly payment date to ensure smooth processing.
Thanks for understanding.
